"Humanitarian action is more than simple generosity, simple charity. It aims to build spaces of normalcy in the midst of what is profoundly abnormal."

Dr James Orbinski

In his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech
On behalf of Doctors Without Borders in 1999.

Growing Global Crises

Our world is increasingly shaped by crisis. Armed conflict, epidemics, famine, climate disruption, economic inequality, and mass displacements affect more people than ever before. Entire communities, sometimes even entire countries, are affected by forces beyond their control. As a result, millions of people are unable to access healthcare, denied a basic human right.

Your Actions Speak

Because Doctors Without Borders is an independent organisation funded almost completely by individual donors, we can act swiftly in emergencies, providing care where the needs are greatest globally. MSF stocks pre-prepared kits so that teams can offer rapid lifesaving assistance - from surgical packs to inflatable hospitals.

Please consider supporting us and helping people access healthcare with a once-off donation or becoming a regular donor.

5 Things You Need To Know About Doctors Without Borders

97% of our funding comes from private donors, people just like you! We do not accept funds from governments or companies whose activities may conflict with our work. This means we can act swiftly in a crisis and operate with an unrivalled level of independence.

If a crisis is being well managed by governments or other NPOs, we'll probably go where we're needed more. Sometimes this means we go where others can't or won't. Sometimes we're the only humanitarian organisation on the ground, and people's only access to medical care.

We bear witness to the needs, suffering and challenges of our patients and speak out about what we see to raise awareness and provoke change. We believe that silence can kill, so we use our voices to speak on behalf of those who can't.

We provide healthcare to everyone, regardless of race, religion or political affiliations. We remain neutral in all contexts. We don't take sides in armed conflicts and we do not support the agendas of warring parties.

Meaning that we work together with communities to shape and direct our interventions. By including communities as essential stakeholders, we can provide care that is suited and tailored to their specific needs and cultures.
